I'm not a bar kind of person so the ambiance wasn't really me but that's ok because the servers were great and the food was yummy. I didn't take any pics but I got shrimp and grits and it was soooooo good, everyone in the family agreed that I got the best dish. We also ordered hush puppies(my only complaint is that we needed more), red beans and rice, soft shell crab po boy, mac and cheese and another po boy (I can't remember which one). I would definitely eat here again.
Service and authentic foodie selections, WOW. Never thought I would find a place outside New Orleans with such a cajun flair. A soft-shelled blue crab in Denver? No Way... but there it was. The only thing missing was Old Bay seasoning, they way everything is seasoned in Maryland. Nola Jane is simply outstanding. Service is wonderful. A very full bar selection. The menu selections: Po Boy's, soups, good stuff.
Had 12 hours in Denver and decided to go and explore the city. Looked through TikTok and it was recommended to try a few places. Nola Jane came up and I decided to try them out. Mid day on a Monday the restaurant was not busy and was seated quickly. The server instructed us to scan the menu and went away to help other tables. When asking the server questions they seemed impatient and overwhelmed. Ordered the Happy Hour Draft Hurricane which was all you needed. That drink was strong and got right to the point. No games are played one was enough, two I would have needed a wheelchair to get back on the plane. Then ordered their crawfish ettoufee and when I say it was heaven on earth!! The roux was so smooth and buttery. I asked for white rice and it was the perfect addition to the nice Cajun kick at the end. The garlic bread was the rice piece to scoop up any remaining sauce. 100/10!!!
I absolutely love Nola Jane! It's the perfect spot to pregame for a game/show at Ball Arena AND grab late night food afterwards. Their kitchen stays open later than most restaurants. The crawfish dish was probably the best thing I've had. So flavorful and it actually tasted like it has crawfish in it. Mac n cheese was okay. It lacked the cheesy flavor. Po Boy was also alright. My favorite dishes here are the fries, gumbo, and crawfish Staff is really nice and friendly but you can tell they get overwhelmed when it's crowded. Nonetheless, this is one of my favorite restaurants downtown. I'll always be down for Nola Jane.
First time dining here with my husband as we were in town on a business trip. Food: 10/10 in taste. Louisiana/ Cajun inspired dishes. Red beans and rice didn't have the best aesthetic, but they were good in taste. My husband and I ordered a cup of gumbo to share just so we could taste it and we found it to be very rich in flavor. We both ordered catfish and rice as our main entrees. Husband ordered his catfish blackened (which was a slight up-charge) with white rice and a side of mac and cheese. I chose to order my catfish grilled on a bed of dirty rice. Service: Could be improved. We dined here on a Saturday night in August. We were asked at the door if we wanted to sit downstairs or go up to the rooftop area and we chose the rooftop. Upstairs there is a rooftop bar, a front end outdoor seating area where you can see the street and people watch, or you can sit in the back patio area where there is outdoor furniture more for lounging. Like other people who had never dined here, we didn't notice that we had to order at the bar with the bar tender, so we sat a while waiting before we noticed. My husband asked the bartender for cups of water and she yelled 'it's over there' and pointed to a water cooler with a spout that had plastic cups next to it. There was only one bartender working that night and there were a couple of tables/outdoor seating areas occupied, so imagine the slight rush when we all wanted to pay for our food at the same time. Value: Expect to pay $20-$30 per person. They also serve craft cocktails, but we didn't order any. My husband ordered one glass of wine for himself which was $10. I felt like there was an upcharge for a lot of things (example: we ordered catfish plates at the rate of $17 but blackened catfish is $1 extra and dirty rice is $2 extra). I didn't see a mention in the menu of there also being a 'kitchen appreciation fee.' It may be there but I didn't see it so just be mindful of that. Ambiance: establishment is pretty big in size. Downstairs area was playing pop music and the rooftop area seemed to play R&B or rap music that night. String lighting on the rooftop and some artwork aligning the walls. Overall, it was pretty tasty to have in Denver. If I want the same type of cuisine with more bang for my buck; however, I would fly to New Orleans. Take a look at my pics! Location: 1435 Market St, Denver, CO 80202 (downtown Denver, CO area). Lots of bars and nightlife spots in the area.
I will always try a cajun/creole restaurant respective of recommendations, tips, or . This was a solid experience. There were lots of standards and favorites, many bowls of gumbo went out, but I went with the Crawfish Etouffee. I would order again but the roux might have been cooked out enough as it was a little chalky, but the dirty rice was great. I added a piece of their cornbread too; don't skip this They have what looked to be a great full bar, but I was there for a working lunch.
This is a cajun/creole restaurant. For those that don't know, NOLA stands for New Orleans, LA. The restaurant is sort of casual/divey. Full-service. The food's good--maybe not as good as the food in New Orleans, but still good.
This was a quick pick for our late lunch while in Denver. It wasn't on our radar but it popped up while we were out and about. My friend suggested it and I let her pick. I wasn't overly excited about it but it turned out to be a fantastic meal. The service was awesome. Friendly, prompt (not too prompt if you know what I mean) and helpful with making our choices. I got the grilled catfish plate with rice and collard greens and étouffée. I couldn't stop raving about this meal! It was phenomenal. So much flavor and cooked perfectly. The hush puppies that we shared were just okay. I've had much better. But that's okay. I would totally come back for that catfish plate.
I very much like Nola Jane and you can't beat their shrimp and grits plate! It's a bar then a restaurant, but they do have some of the yummy NOLA foods if you are craving that. There's an upstairs/small outside but I think only on weekends, or something and it's on the smaller side outside. Come check it out if you want to try or miss some of the foods from New Orleans.
Making this reel my thoughts kept on going back to Mike Goldman. Owner/Executive Chef. It's very simple why. He's very likable and the food is great. Not all are fried stuff. So don't hesitate to come and visit and have fun! My fave area is the table by the window if I'm downstairs. But it's unmistakable the vibe upstairs. Very NOLA! So ultimately that's where I wanna be! Beside that Mike just wants you to enjoy Cajun/Creole food. He used to live in New Orleans. Why disappoint a man who laughs so easily?! In my book he's already succeeded! Amazing food! Everything was delicious! A few standouts to me were the Catfish with dirty rice and have you had crawfish cakes? You haven't? You must try! He makes a yearly trip to New Orleans. Can't wait for the stories about his trip. Featured Dishes: Mac and Cheese. With New orleans BBQ shrimp, black pepper, worcestershire, and beurre blanc ( or you can get a traditional one. But why??)
